Our first NEBOSH Working with Wellbeing course was a success!
In October 2021, we ran our very first NEBOSH Working with Wellbeing. The Team at 16 Degree Shift is very passionate about health and wellbeing so this was a very exciting prospect to be able to deliver the NEBOSH health and wellbeing course as a GOLD Status Learning partner. The course was held in the Royal Quays Business Centre. For some of us it was the first time we’d had actual face to face contact in over a year so was great to have that social interaction.
Throughout the day
The Team explored the wellbeing topics of kindness, interaction, nutrition, exercise, and mindfulness with tutors, Maria, Ian, and Aimee. There were some brilliant discussions with lots of our learners giving real workplace examples of issues and ideas for better wellbeing and it’s fair to say we all learned something new.
Ian had fashioned a wellbeing tree to represent the branches of wellbeing and everyone participated in coming up with ideas to leaf out each branch with post-it notes so we were left with a complete wellbeing concept by the end.
The visual representation was amazing, so the tree is staying!
The Team has listened to the feedback from our learners, and we are going to get everyone up, moving and contributing to completing the tree and ensuring everyone isn’t sitting down for too long.
After a fantastic lunch, provided by our local social enterprise How Delicious Family Gateway, and covering all course content we had a few activities including mindfulness sessions. This was a great new experience and something some of us will certainly be practicing in the future. Everyone then went on to assess their own workplaces for strengths and weaknesses in wellbeing.
Our learners moved on to developing an intervention plan using the weaknesses identified and generating solutions and a way to measure effectiveness to take back to the workplace and hopefully make some positive changes.
It’s fair to say we all had an enjoyable day!
The Team achieved a lot in the short time we had together and that was reflected in the great feedback we received from our learners.
Here are a few of their thoughts.
“Fantastic opportunity to explore the world of health and wellbeing within the working environment. An eye-opener at how even the smallest daily things affect people in a different capacity”
“The overall learning experience was enjoyable and informative. It allowed me to meet with people from different employment areas and the learning element will be ongoing, as a WhatsApp page has been setup where we can all share useful wellbeing information and good practices.”
“Interaction and group discussions, learning from all life experiences and work experiences of tutors and other delegates. I enjoyed the interaction and variety of having 3 presenters who all added their own strengths to the various sections of the course. It was really enjoyable and thought-provoking, It was also able to give focus on what we might like got take back to the workplace and to get ideas from tutors and delegates and the course material about different ideas for different issues in different contexts and for different people.”
“For someone who didn’t know a lot about wellbeing this course unlocked all the mystery. I now feel empowered to help others and guide the company towards ‘dry-land’.”
“The teaching from all tutors was a very high polished professional delivery. Having three tutors deliver the course increased the knowledge gained as each had their own perspective on a subject that was new to most in the room. Having post-it notes to place on the tree of well-being kept all learners interacted.”
“My second course with Ian and his team and it’s made want more again I am big on self-investment and working with you lot makes it a lot easier the team has a vast amount of knowledge and I love picking their brains to better my self I couldn’t ask for better people to learn from thanks again for your time”
As this is a new NEBOSH Health and wellbeing course that 16 Degree Shift is delivering, we knew that it was likely that NEBOSH would moderate the learner assessments. The good news is that everyone passed and did a great job on their assessment and our assessor was rated as excellent in most areas!
